A brief history of a selection of medieval abbeys and priories in northern England and southern Scotland. Abbeys and Priories Gallery on Mostly Medieval - Exploring the Middle Ages Ballads Beasties Book of Days God and War Heraldry Medicine. Binns, Alison () Studies in the History of Medieval Religion 1: Dedications of Monastic Houses in England and Wales –, Boydell Cobbett, William () List of Abbeys, Priories, Nunneries, Hospitals, And Other Religious Foundations in England and Wales and in Ireland, Confiscated, Seized On, or Alienated by the Protestant "Reformation" Sovereigns and Parliaments.

The book lists of Reading and Leominster are typical library catalogues of this period. This study of the design, manufacture and use of medieval floor tiles shows the long-lasting influence achieved in the north of England, especially by the Cistercian monasteries. It serves to demonstrate how these monastic houses made use of the resources and contacts available to them.   While the role of monastic education has been studied in great detail in regard to male practices, this book examines the differences between the monastic formation and education of men and of women in Western Europe from the eighth to the sixteenth century. Fourteen chapters, written by well-known scholars, consider monastic education and practices in the geographical areas of England, 4/5(1).
